On 7 October 2026, the Assembly of North Macedonia adopted the Law on Notification and Screening of Foreign Direct Investments (Закон за пријавување и проверка на странски директни инвестиции) ("FDI Screening Act"). The FDI Screening Act enters into force on 21 October 2026 but will apply only from 21 April 2028.

On 15 July 2026, the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia adopted draft Foreign Direct Investments Notification and Screening Act.

The Government of Montenegro has adopted the Proposal for the Establishment of an Efficient Foreign Investment Screening Mechanism, a policy blueprint for the drafting of Montenegro’s first dedicated screening legislation, the Foreign Investment Screening Act (Zakon o provjeri stranih investicija), and the implementing regulations.
