Partner Bogdan Ivanišević and senior associate Milica Basta represented BDK Advokati at this year’s edition of Tarabica IT conference, held on 25 May in Belgrade. The event is traditionally dedicated to topics relevant to the IT industry and as such it mainly gathers IT professionals from major Serbian companies and institutions.
During the session named GDPR and Information technologies, Bogdan and Milica described under which circumstances GDPR is the most relevant for programmers and administrators in the IT industry. They described the main principles of personal data processing, including those on transparency, purpose and storage limitation, data minimisation, and confidentiality, which are the essence of GDPR, and how these principles are embedded into specific legal norms binding for IT practitioners.
BDK Advokati experts gave concrete examples of legal challenges that the industry is facing in real world when processing personal data, such as when designing mobile applications or running highly sophisticated software that analyse Big Data sets. They described how users’ consent may be properly obtained in these situations and analysed whether alternative legal bases for the processing exist.
Bogdan and Milica further discussed the process of the data protection impact assessment (DPIA) and the data processing agreement, both highly relevant for business entities in IT who are processing personal data as part of their business.
The session of BDK Advokati stood out from the general content covered at Tarabica conference and as such it attracted considerable appreciation from both organizers and attendees.
