Telecoms and media: BDK Advokati contributes a Serbia chapter

In a Serbia chapter authored for Getting the Deal Through: Telecoms and Media (July 2018), BDK Advokati gave overview of the country’s regulatory framework concerning telecoms and media. The analysis was authored by Bogdan Ivanišević, Pablo Perez Laya and Zorana Brujić.

Telecoms

In the summary of the regulatory framework for the telecoms sector in Serbia, authors focused on the Electronic Communications Act as the key piece of legislation. They explained the institutional structure and competencies of relevant state bodies, including: the Government of Serbia, the Ministry in charge of the telecommunication and information society and the Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Postal Services (RATEL). The piece also describes procedures before these institutions and covers other relevant topics, such as: licensing regime, data protection, net neutrality and others.

Media

In the chapter dedicated to Serbian media sector, authors analysed Public Information and Media Act and the Electronic Media Act. Similar to the telecoms chapter, authors provided overview of the institutional structure by particularly focusing on the Ministry of Culture and the Regulatory Authority of Electronic Media (REM). Furthermore, they addressed the topics such as broadcasting of foreign produced programmers, advertising and media plurality.
