The data protection team of BDK Advokati held a seminar on the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) on 7 November 2018 for nearly 30 participants from companies seated in Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
GDPR’s applicability extends to companies outside the EU, including those from Bosnia and Herzegovina, when such companies process personal data of individuals in the EU, in the context of offering them goods or services or monitoring their behavior. This potentially exposes such companies to large GDPR fines.
Our team specialized in data protection & privacy – Bogdan Ivanišević, Ana Jankov, Milica Basta and Marko Popović – presented to the participating companies the key characteristics of GDPR, principles of lawful data processing under GDPR, data subjects’ rights, controller’s obligations (including records keeping, impact assessment, prior consultation with supervisory authorities, designation of the data protection officer, and breach notification), and transfer of personal data to third countries.
Familiarity with the GDPR is also important for Bosnian companies which do not process personal data of the data subjects in the EU. The upcoming changes in the data protection law in Bosnia and Herzegovina will reflect the GDPR solutions.
