Senior associate Milica Basta participated in the International Symposium for Directors of Primary and Secondary Schools organized by the publishing company Klett from Belgrade. The event took place on 27-29 February 2020 in Vrnjačka Banja, and gathered almost 400 school directors from Serbia and Montenegro.
Milica delivered a presentation on the obligations of schools as data controllers under the new Data Protection Act (2018), and elaborated on the manners in which those obligations can be successfully fulfilled. The presentation was followed by an active discussion during which Milica answered questions of the participants. Most of the questions concerned the issues of proper installation of video surveillance systems, applicability of consent as the legal basis for data processing, and permissibility of the publishing of personal data on the schools’ websites.
Other speakers at the symposium were state officials and experts in the areas of pedagogy, psychology, and law.
